What it does

This token pool hook charges fixed buy and sell taxes of unknown exact size on every trade and uses the proceeds for token buybacks, while third-party LPs can withdraw freely.

This read was written for the hook 0x9efb…00cc on Robinhood Chain and reused here: the two share a code shape, so constants such as fees, owners and addresses can differ.

How it works step by step

  • Charges a buy tax and a sell tax on swaps in a single token/quote pool, using fixed constants (BUY_TAX_BPS and SELL_TAX_BPS) whose exact values could not be read from the bytecode.
  • Keeps the collected tax inside the hook and can spend it on buybacks of the token, either automatically after swaps or through a designated buyback operator.
  • Holds a protocol-owned LP position as a Uniswap v4 position NFT, locked until an unlock time that the owner can extend.
  • After the lock ends, the owner can collect fees on that position and withdraw it.
Swap behaviour
On every swap the hook takes a tax from the swap amounts through return deltas, at a different rate for buys and sells. After a swap it may also run an automatic buyback chunk that swaps the accumulated quote tokens for the token.
Liquidity behaviour
No liquidity callbacks are active, so third-party LPs can add and withdraw freely. The hook's own protocol LP NFT is time-locked, and only the owner can withdraw it after the lock expires.
Fee behaviour
Fixed buy and sell taxes are set as hard-coded constants, and their exact percentages are not visible in the decoded bytecode. The tax is kept by the hook and used for token buybacks, and it is added on top of the pool's swap fee.
Owner & admin controls
The owner can turn buybacks and auto-buyback on or off, set the buyback operator, and set buyback parameters (minimum amount, chunk size, chunks per transaction). The owner can also extend the LP lock, collect LP fees, and withdraw the protocol LP after it unlocks. The tax rates appear to be constants that cannot be changed.

Enabled Uniswap v4 callbacks

beforeSwap, afterSwap, beforeSwapReturnDelta, afterSwapReturnDelta

beforeSwap: works out and takes the tax on the input side; afterSwap: takes the tax on the output side and may trigger an auto-buyback; beforeSwapReturnDelta/afterSwapReturnDelta: let the hook deduct the tax from swap amounts.

Security & trust assessment

Risk level: medium, estimated (decoded bytecode, medium confidence).

Who controls it: A single owner controls buyback settings, the buyback operator, and the hook-held protocol LP position after its lock ends. The owner does not appear able to change the tax rates.

Risk to user funds: Traders pay the fixed buy or sell tax on each swap, at a rate that cannot be confirmed from bytecode. Other LPs' principal cannot be locked or taken by the hook.

Security findings

  • [medium] Unverified swap tax via return deltas: The hook deducts buy and sell taxes from swaps. The tax rates are hard-coded constants, but their values cannot be confirmed from bytecode alone.
  • [low] Owner-controlled buybacks and protocol LP: The owner and buyback operator decide how the collected tax is spent on buybacks. The owner can withdraw the hook-held LP NFT once its lock time has passed.
  • [info] Third-party LP withdrawals unrestricted: Remove-liquidity callbacks are disabled, so the hook cannot block LP withdrawals.
